History

In 1962, the Minister of Higher Education and Science, Prof. Dr. Ir. Thojib Hadiwidjaja, suggested to the then-Rector of Diponegoro University, Mr. Soedarto, that a Faculty of Animal Husbandry be established. This suggestion arose from the realization that Central Java had significant livestock potential and therefore needed to be developed.

This positive suggestion was responded to by Mr. Soedarto, as Rector of Diponegoro University, who then approached various parties. After some time, the Preparatory Committee for the Establishment of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry at Diponegoro University was formed through Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Training No. 37 of 1963.

Thanks to the Committee’s dedication and the support of various government and private institutions, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry at Diponegoro University was established on September 1, 1964, through Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science No. 75/1964, dated July 17, 1964.

In 1968, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry at Diponegoro University expanded by establishing the Fisheries Department, based on Decree of the Rector of Diponegoro University No. 44/1968, dated October 8, 1968. Thus, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry at Diponegoro University now has two departments: the Department of Animal Husbandry and the Department of Fisheries. On August 17, 1974, the name of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry at Diponegoro University was officially changed to the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, with three departments (each managing one undergraduate study program): (1) Department of Animal Nutrition and Feed, (2) Department of Animal Production, and (3) Department of Fisheries (Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 0551/0/1983 dated December 8, 1983).

Then, starting in 1994, with the establishment of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry only had two departments: (1) Department of Animal Nutrition and Feed and (2) Department of Animal Production.

In 2009, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry opened a new study program, the Undergraduate Program in Animal Husbandry, as a consequence of Decree of the Director General of Higher Education No. Decree No. 163/DIKTI/Kep/2007 dated November 29, 2007, required the merger of four previously existing undergraduate study programs (Animal Nutrition and Feed, Animal Production, Socioeconomics of Animal Husbandry, and Animal Product Technology) within the Faculty of Animal Husbandry into one study program, the Animal Husbandry Undergraduate Program.

The closure of these study programs has resulted in inefficiencies in human resources, particularly among lecturers. To improve this efficiency, non-animal husbandry study programs were developed within the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, resulting in a change in the faculty’s name. The name change of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry to the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture was approved by the University Senate with the issuance of Rector’s Decree No. 724/SK/UN7/2011 dated December 8, 2011.

Furthermore, Rector’s Decree No. 312/SK/UN7/2012 dated May 30, 2012, stipulated the merger of the Animal Production Department and the Animal Nutrition and Feed Department into the Animal Husbandry Department, as well as the establishment of the Agriculture Department within the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture, Diponegoro University.
